Xidian University

Xidian University is a national key university under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, China. It focuses primarily on electronics and information education and research, with an integration of a wide range of academic subjects covering engineering, science, management, economy, arts and social sciences. It was approved by the state to be one of the universities funded by “Project 211”, one of the universities having a Graduate School, one of the universities having a national demonstration School of Software and IC Talents Training Center.

Xidian University has two campuses, north campus and south campus, occupying an area of 270 hectares, with the building area of over 1,300,000 square meters. Its two libraries boast a collection of 6.14 million volumes, of which there are about 2.34 million paper documents and about 3.8 million electronic documents, 1300 journals in foreign languages, and electronic resources in Chinese and foreign languages on 45 platforms with about 120 databases, covering all the disciplines and specialties of the university. Presently, the university has more than 30,000 students of all sorts, of whom there are over 1700 doctoral candidates and 9000 master degree seeking students. It has set up 17 schools, such as School of Telecommunications Engineering, School of Electronic Engineering, School of Computer Science and Technology, School of Mechatronic Engineering, School of Economics and Management, School of International Education, etc.

Xidian University is one of the institutions of higher learning in China which earliest established the specialties of information theory, information system engineering, radar, microwave antenna, electronic-mechanical engineering, and electronic countermeasure, being the forerunner of the IT discipline of China and forming distinct characteristics and advantages of electronic and information disciplines. In the national third-round assessment of the first-level disciplines in China, its “information and communication engineering” ranked second and its “electronic science and technology “ranked fourth. It has been an essential base of IT talents training and high level scientific research innovation. The employment rates of undergraduates and postgraduates have achieved 97% and 100% respectively, ranking top in China.

As a national key university, Xidian University, following the concept of promoting the reform and development through opening up, actively expands the cooperation and exchange and has already built up the cooperative relationship with the institutions of higher education in France, America, Japan and Britain, etc., training a large number of international talents who have international view, are familiar with international rules and participate in international affairs and competition. Meanwhile, it has set up partnership and established joint laboratories with numerous international famous enterprises and state-level high-tech enterprise groups, such as Huawei Technology Co. Ltd., ZTE, Intel, Microsoft, IBM, and Hollysys Automation Technologies Ltd., promoting international talents cultivation to a new stage.

Till now, a total enrollment of more than 2,000 overseas students from 70 countries, such as the United States, Britain, Portugal, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Kenya, etc., have been studying Chinese language and specialized courses at School of International Education. The school has established course modules taught both in English and Chinese for undergraduates, graduates and postgraduates. The international education has began to take shape and formed its multiple-level training modes including Chinese language training, preparatory courses, undergraduate course modules in Chinese and in English, graduates and postgraduates in Chinese, and postgraduates taught in English.

Xidian University is located in world well-known ancient city-Xi'an. There were 13 dynasties set up their capitals in Xi'an, loads of historic tourism attraction including “The 8th World Wonder”—Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses Museum of Emperor Qin are situated here. Xi'an is an ideal city to understand the long history and profound culture of China.
